New findings from the James Webb Space Telescope suggest that Neptune's inner moons may have been broken apart during a cosmic disaster. The telescope detected clay-like minerals on some of these moons, which could only form in the presence of liquid water, suggesting they were originally large icy moons that were shattered when Triton was captured by Neptune.
