NASA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) found clues that Neptune's inner moons may be pieces of a shattered ancient world. Clay-like minerals were detected on the moons Larissa, Galatea and in Neptune's rings, which form with liquid water. The absence of ice suggests these particles originated from larger icy moons destroyed when Triton was captured by Neptune.
