The James Webb Space Telescope captured detailed images of gas feeding a supermassive black hole at the center of a galaxy called NGC 4696. The images show a vast filament channeling material into a spinning disk where gas races around at high speeds, and suggest black holes may recycle fuel by heating gas with jets before drawing the cooled material back in.
